An unplanned trip to Meghalaya – Part 2

DOUBLE DECK LIVING ROOT BRIDGE

The day 2 – We woke up early morning, and again our Driver was already waiting for us, too much punctual. We Left to Cherrapunji, On the way we had Our Break fast, again the soupy egg noodles, misty morning, next to a Bridge – what else u can expect in the morning, that too a Tea after Breakfast – standing on the lonely Misty Bridge, children waving hands to you on the way to school – a Celebrity feel.

The way to Cherrapunji is just a Marvelous art work of nature, I don’t know which one to explain and which one to ignore, its that beautiful. Waterfalls, waterfall, full of waterfalls. All those white lines are just waterfalls.

Finally reached the trek starting point of Double Deck Living root Bridge. Located in the Nongriat Village, i think they call it as the Khasi Hills we had to pay 20/- for the trek and another 10/- for the Bamboo stick for trek support.

3700 Steps, yes !!!!! thats the number of steps u got to cross to reach the double Deck. We crossed 2 villages, 3 Bridges.

At every 10 mins we thought to quit and return, whenever we asked the local people the distance for the waterfall, they just said “10mins” – they kept on the same from the starting of the trek till the end, they were kept on saying the same, May be for them it was just a 10 min walk.

After 2 Hrs we reached a Village, we asked the Distance and the answer was expected, but for a change they said “2mins“, but we were not ready we aborted the whole mission we saw a local shop selling fruits, we went there to eat and return. We went to the shop, next to that we saw a stream and a small waterfall and behind the shop we saw two Green Bridges one Above the other made up or natural roots – yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Yes it was the DOUBLE DECK LIVING ROOT BRIDGE – Finally. Dont know what to admire – the crystal clear stream or the small waterfall or the natural Bridge or the Waterfall far away from u falling from a height for which u have to raise ur head to the sky, a Waterfall falling without any noise, slow motion – that far it was. Not wasting much time just started admiring everything, each and everything – i was not moving an inch. Went into the stream started swimming, fishes were biting.

I was standing in the Stream – Behind me a double deck living bridge, in front of me a small waterfall, below me Fishes biting me above me a slow motion waterfall. Suddenly the 3700 steps felt very less for this view. Too many things at a single place, i never thought to stay there, i just wanted to leave that place, i was scared i may end up polluting that Heaven just like any other guy who lives in a city

. I thought to keep it sacred. After leaving there, there was an option for stay at the village and also there is a waterfall called Rainbow Falls which is a Blue crystal clear waterfall, but my journey was complete at the Bridge, I didn’t want to distract any of the visuals that i saw there so we headed towards our Car.

It was another challenge to travel again through those 3700 steps, finally we met our driver. Legs paining, shivering no more stamina to stand, we just slept on the cab – tired and cherishing all those things which we witnessed.

After that we went to the Limestone cave – small cave took 10 mins to go through but after the double deck it was not what i was waiting for. After that we went to seven sister falls, Nokhalikai falls but due to the clouds (Meghalay) we didn’t get any View. For the first time I was happy for missing 2 waterfalls, that much i was in love with the Double Deck.

It was evening we reached shillong and had no other plans to stay there so we headed to Assam slept there, ate there Left north east towards my South.

End of the Trip.

Please keep at least the Tourist places clean.
